Waters Avenue Church is not just a church building we are a movement of ordinary people resolved to do extraordinary things, by celebrating and living out the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mission:
Our mission is to be a place that helps people create a better world. We believe that Jesus brought peace to earth, and that we have the responsibility, as his followers, to let people know that peace is possible. Our world is full of alienation and enemies. People are at war with themselves, with their families, with their neighbors. Countries are at war with one another while religions spread fear and aggression.
We have hope that another world is possible, and we want to do everything in our power to live in that new, better world. We hope that you'll join us as we follow Jesus in the attempt to make friends out of enemies, bring light into darkness, spread hope where there is despair, bring equality where there is inequality, and make peace where there is violence and strife.
Vision:
We believe that one of the biggest problems in the world is alienation or separation. People are alienated from their neighbors, families are alienated from each other. Economic classes and races are divided. Members of religions around the world carry out violence against those who disagree with them. Individuals are alienated from their own selves. The Bible's solution to this problem is reconciliation. We believe that Jesus showed us that reconciliation between groups of people is achievable, and we want to do our part to see it happen. The very first Christians realized that something new was happening in the world and they spoke of a world where racial, gender, and economic equality were fully realized. We believe in their vision, and we want to be a community where those ideas are a reality.
