What to expect at The Open Door: Are you thinking it's time to come and check out The Open Door for yourself? Well we think that is a great idea, and we want to help you be as prepared and comfortable as we possibly can for your first visit. The first thing you need to know about us is that we are real. What we mean by real is that we are authentic, honest and direct. We don't really care what you wear when you come to The Open Door; we're just excited that you're here because we believe God is excited when His people gather to learn about Him. Most Sunday mornings are led by our lead pastor and teacher, Steve Bakke, along with our talented worship team. They lead us in the three core elements to our Sunday gatherings; teaching of God's Word, singing in worship and prayer. It's pretty simple. We don't get too complicated but we take God seriously. You can expect to hear great music, be taught straight from the pages of God's Word and be given the chance to meet God in a way you may have never met Him before. If you have your own Bible, we encourage you to bring it. We will be teaching right from it. If you don't have one, that's okay - we have the scripture verses up on the screens. Our Sunday morning goal is pretty simple. We want to spend time in God's presence and in the company of the Holy Spirit. We have learned that the more we come to church expecting to be awed by God and anticipating what He is going to do among us, the more we enjoy being in church. Come and see!
Mission:
To make Jesus known by actively gathering God's scattered children together in His name and through the work of the Holy Spirit teach and grow them in faith so that they may be sent out into the world to share the life-giving love of Jesus.
Purpose:
The Open Door began with a simple dream: that a Sunday morning in church could be more than empty worship filled with pre-written prayers and sermons full of stories read from a page. We know that the God of the Bible who created all we see and know is still far more interesting than empty chatter in the pews. We believed that Godâ s Holy Spirit is alive and well and living and working in and among every believer who is open to Him. We understood that Jesus lived and died for and because of us. Finally, we knew that it was possible for a wide gathering of people to come together and truly love, appreciate and respect each other without the fear of gossip or judgment. Those simple ideas along with a belief in the ongoing teaching and study of God's Word, simple and engaging worship and a firm belief in the power of prayer gave birth to The Open Door.
