Additional Info About Our Church
St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church began in the living room of the Rev. Alex Montes-Vela's home with five people in early 2010, and we moved our Sunday gatherings to the Manor High School cafeteria in the late summer of 2010, having our Grand Opening on Sunday, September 12, 2010.
After gathering at the Manor High School cafeteria (as well as surrounding parks, and the Manor Lions Club hall) for four and a half years, on December 18, 2014, the SMM community moved to it's "new" home, on the "hill," 12800 Lexington Street, Manor, Texas 78653. You can see the church building from the U.S. Highway 290, the church with the "red" doors.
St. Mary Magdalene has become a multiethnic community which worships and does life in a bilingual context. Some of those who attend our services speak only English, while others speak more in Spanish than in English, and others are bilingual. Of those who attend our services, some are from Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, California, New Mexico, Wisconsin, as well as from El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Dominican Republic and Cuba.
