Additional Info About Our Church
Through God's guidance, the prompting of the Holy Spirit and the example of Jesus Christ, we at St. John's feel called to serve God locally, nationally and internationally. We are also a church that takes positions of leadership in issues relating to peace and justice issues, the More Light movement for gay and lesbian Christians, and programs for the homeless. St. John's is a true presence in Berkeley, socially, educationally, artistically, and spiritually committed to our community. More than three dozen community groups use our facilities, in addition to regular church activities, virtually making St. John's an all day, everyday operation.
Mission:
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Jews or Greeks, slaves or free and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:12)
Vision:
Go forth into the world in peace; be of good courage; hold fast to that which is good; render to no one evil for evil; strengthen the fainthearted; support the weak; help the afflicted; honor everyone; love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit; and the blessings of God almighty, the Creator, the Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, will be among you and remain within you both now and forevermore. (1 Thessalonians 5:13-21)
Purpose:
The Church is not just an address or a building; our church is about partnering with God to bring about change in the world.
