Additional Info About Our Church
In the book of Acts, chapter seventeen, verse eleven we read that when Paul and Silas brought the gospel to the Jews in Berea, that the Bereans "... were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." In a day when the Word of God is often marginalized and neglected, we seek to exemplify the spirit of the Bereans by constantly reforming all of our doctrine and life to be in accord with the whole council of God. Berean Presbyterian Church, a mission work of the Orthodox Presbyterian Denomination, seeks to fulfill the great commission that our Lord Jesus entrusted us; to make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that He commanded us. We emphasize the sinfulness and depravity of man and the absolute sovereignty and holiness of God. We believe that salvation is the work of God alone wherein He changes the hearts of His people and calls them from darkness into light. It is a act of God's free grace, in which we take no credit but solely rest by faith in the work of Jesus Christ upon the cross of Calvary. We believe that God continues to effectually work in the lives of His people through the Holy Spirit in the process of sanctification, whereby he conforms them to the image of His son and calls them to lead lives of personal obedience and holiness. Believers are not to walk alone in this world but are called to live in community with the rest of His covenant people, a body known in the scriptures as the Church. As the Protestant Reformers noticed in previous generations, we believe that the scriptures teach that there are three crucial characteristics of a biblical church. These three crucial characteristics are: the faithful preaching of God's word, the proper administration of the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper, and when necessary, the solemn practice of discipline. We believe that on the Lord's Day, rather seeking to be entertained, we gather to worship our holy and sovereign King in spirit and in truth with an attitude of reverence and awe as the scriptures mandate. We invite those who have a yearning for biblical preaching, commitment to personal growth, maturity, and accountability, and a desire to know God more intimately to join us.
